Two Black Baseball Images. Two separate images depicting African-American baseball teams, including:

    Morris Brown College Baseball Team.
    Gelatin silver print
    10" x 8"
    Atlanta, Georgia; circa 1899

There are nine uniformed players, posed for a team photograph along with a small child and a man in a suit. The photograph was taken in 1899 but was printed at a later date. The Morris Brown Colored College was founded in 1881 and named after African Methodist Episcopal bishop, Morris Brown. The school officially opened on October 15, 1885, and provided education for many students from humble and poor backgrounds.

    "Baseball at Blackville" Chromolithograph.
    4.75" x 3.25", Clarence Brooks & Co. trade card
    No place; circa 1881

An illustration of a group of African-Americans playing an informal game of baseball. The caption reads, "The White Stockings Against the Black Legs First Blood for the Black Legs". The image appears to have been cleanly cut from a larger card. During the 19th century, this form of politically incorrect caricatures of African-Americans were used for advertising. This illustration had been printed in Harper's Weekly in 1878 and was later produced as a trading card.

Condition: The Morris Brown photograph is in very good condition, and the chromolithograph has a small amount of wear, but is otherwise good.
