Tombstone, Arizona: The Men Who Organized the First Helldorado. Photograph of the men who organized Tombstone's Helldorado event in 1929. Photograph by the Carson-Ball Studio in Bisbee, Arizona, is in a 12" x 10.75" mat on a 12.25" x 11 1/8" mount, circa 1929, and depicts twenty men involved with organizing Helldorado, Tombstone's Fifty Year celebration. The man in the middle of the front row is William Breakenridge, whose book Helldorado gave the Tombstone event its name, while the man on the far right of the first row is Ray Krebbs, mayor of Tombstone. Apparently, all Tombstone men were requested to let their beards, mustaches, and sideburns grow for Helldorado and it looks like all the men in this picture did so. In 1929 Tombstone celebrated its fifty-year anniversary by arranging an event that highlighted its colorful history involving famous lawmen and notorious gunslingers. Helldorado is still celebrated in Tombstone every October. The photograph, a fine piece of Tombstone history, is in excellent condition.
