    Description

Sixth Plate Tintype of a Union Bugler Posed with His Instrument and a Sword. A seated three quarter portrait, measuring 2" x 2.5" (sight), of a young Union soldier, dressed in a short musician's shell jacket and wearing a belt with a large, brass belt buckle. The man's bugle sits upright on a small table to his right, and he is holding a sword in his left hand, resting across his lap. His cheeks and lips have been tinted red, and the jacket accents, sword hilt, and belt buckle are tinted gold. Housed in a paper and wood case, measuring 3.25" x 3.75", decorated on the front with a gilt image of Lady Liberty. Musicians were often young men or boys who were too young to enlist in the regular army. However, these men still played a crucial part in daily activities and battlefield communications. Bugles were mainly associated with the cavalry and artillery, but were also used to signal time of day and various duties around camp. From the Bret J. Formichi American Civil War Rarities Collection.

    Condition:
Minor imperfections to the background but a nice clear image. Usual wear and soiling to the case, but spine and clasps are in good condition. Overall very good.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
