    Description

Great Quarter Plate Identified Tintype of Sidney Chamberlin, 39th Wisconsin Vol. Infantry. Chamberlin enlisted on 5/30/64 and mustered out 9/22/64. The ID is on an old folded piece of paper that was behind the image. He is pictured wearing frock coat and forage cap. Full set of equipment with plates and buttons tinted gilt. Holds Enfield .577 cal. rifled musket with bayonet fixed in front of him. Painted backdrop with American flag and "#9/Wis. Vol. / Rgt." at lower left. Most unusual. Image has a few minor wipes but not affecting subject, else very fine quality and condition. Housed in a mint, geometric/with floral urn design, black thermoplastic case. Great image and exceptionally nice case.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
