Thomas J. Wood (1823-1906) was an 1845 graduate of West Point, who served in the Mexican War before fighting in the Civil War. He had an exemplary war record, being twice wounded, and fought at important battles such as Shiloh, Stone's River, Chickamauga, Chattanooga, the Atlanta Campaign, Franklin and Nashville. After the war, he served for a period with the Freedmen's Bureau before retiring from service in 1868. Wood applied for a Medal of Honor but unfortunately, his application was denied. He was an active member of the GAR and when he passed away in 1906, he was the last to die of his 1845 West Point class.
Condition: Chipping to the edges and corners. Light soiling. Paper loss and mounting residue on verso.
