    Description

Tombstone, Arizona: Photograph of Scott White, Cochise County Sheriff. Photograph by The Falk Studio, New York City, circa 1900, a 3.5" x 7.5" print on a 4.5" x 8.75" mount, which is attached by corner mounts to a thick card stock. Scott White (1856-1935), was a Tombstone businessman, involved in several mining companies, and politician who served Cochise County as sheriff (1893-1894, 1897-1900) and U.S. Deputy Marshall. Pasted to the back of the photograph is a sheet of lined paper with "Deed of Mining Claims/Scott White Sheriff to Martin Costello." Also included in an 8.5" x 11" type letter signed by Walter Douglas, manager of The Arizona & South Eastern Railroad (on company letterhead) of Brisbee, Arizona, dated May 29, 1901, and addressed to White as secretary of the Cananea (Sonora, Mexico) Consolidated Copper Company. The letter discusses rates for shipping lumber, iron, and steel. A transmittal stamped cover is included with the letter. The photograph, letter, and cover are in fine condition and offer an interesting insight to the career of a leading Tombstone figure.
