Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid: An Important Published Original Photo. Published on page 138 of The Last of the Bandit Riders, by Matt Warner and Murray E. King (Bonanza Books, New York), Warner was an outlaw who rode with Butch and Sundance, and who shortly before his death in 1938 told his life's story to King.

This albumen photo appears in the book with the caption "Saloon in Green River, Utah, where Matt Warner and his friends sometimes gathered. The man sitting before the front door is Sheriff Tom Forbes, who was sent out of Robber's Roost without his pants. In the chair next to the tree is Butch Cassidy, and leaning against the tree is Harry Longabaugh, notorious bandit" (known as the Sundance Kid).

The exact provenance of the photo is unknown, but written on the back of the mount in unattributed, but clearly vintage pencil, are the identifications. The photo, itself measuring 4.75" x 3.75", is just a bit light, but otherwise in excellent condition. Light soiling on the mount.

Perhaps because of their romantic history and the popularity of the Newman and Redford film, Butch and Sundance are among the most collectable of Old West outlaws. This important photo of both would be a prize acquisition for any serious Western collector.
