Please see the internet session of this auction for many additional fine examples of Lincoln and Civil War photography from the Dr. Michael Krane collection.

Abraham Lincoln: Imperial Albumen Photograph by Brady. 6.5" x 8.5" albumen photograph of Lincoln in a studio setting, O-92, taken by Anthony Berger in Mathew Brady's Washington, D.C. gallery on February 9, 1864. It is often referred to as the "$5 bill portrait", but is rarely seen in this large size. Lincoln sits in the "Brady chair" while a photo album appears on a table to the left. This album is the same one seen in the famous portrait of Lincoln & Tad together, 0-93, taken the same day. The conversation between the President & his son, as well as Tad's antics, would have been "something else" to witness! Matted and framed, the mat is affixed to the backing board, so we are unable to examine the unexposed elements of the photograph. There are some creases and minor discoloration not affecting the portrait itself. A very fine and iconic image. From the collection of Dr. Michael Krane.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
