    [Texas Rangers]. Private William T. Clements Carte de Visite, circa 1879. 2.5" x 4". Clements is seen facing the camera is three piece suit, a small statue is seen peeking over his left shoulder in the distance. "M. C. Ragsdale, Traveling Photographer, Texas" backstamp on verso. Below the image is a short inscription, reading: "William Clements/Sallie Treat's Father."

    William Clements (1857-1906) enlisted in the Texas Rangers in 1875 and served under Captain Daniel W. Roberts' Company "D" before transferring to John B. Jones' company. Widely known as one of the best marksman on the frontier, "Slick" Clements preferred to carry a Smith and Wesson revolver to the standard Colt.
