    Description

[Texas Rangers]. E. A. Maddrey Carte de Visite, circa 1883. 2.5" x 4". Pictured in this studio bust portrait is Texas Ranger E.[J.?] A. Maddrey [Maddry?]. The photograph is identified on the verso in the hand of Walter Durbin, "E. A. Maddrey Wichita Texas 1883 Ranger." Frontier Battalion records from 1885 lists a J. A. Maddry serving in Company "C" under Captain George H. Schmitt, and this is likely who it is. Backstamped "J. L. Goben, Photographer / Bonham, Texas." A previous collector has written his name on the verso in modern ink. Provenance: Durbin Family, Robert W. Stephens, George Jackson Collection.
