    Description

[George Armstrong Custer]. Large Mounted Albumen of General Philip Sheridan and Members of His Staff. Measuring 17.25" x 10.5", Gen. Sheridan, featured at extreme left and staring at the camera, stands next to a table where his generals pour over what appears to be a map. The generals from left to right are: James Forsyth, Wesley Merritt, Thomas C. Devin, and George Armstrong Custer. Affixed to a mount to an overall size of 21" x 14.5". Mount is unevenly toned and scattered spots of foxing are seen on the mount and image. Damage to the lower left corner of the mount does not affect the photograph.

This is one of a series of photographs taken on January 3, 1865, by Mathew Brady & Co. and is found in Katz's Custer in Photographs (K-54).

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
