    Description

Three Drummer Boys Stereoview. 6.75" x 3.25", on a yellow mount, featuring a view of three young boys in full uniform, with one carrying a large drum. The boys wear hats decorated with the letter "H" and the stamped brass infantry bugle. On the reverse is an affixed paper label reading in part, "Anthony's Stereoscopic Views. No. 1471. Three Drummer Boys (now at Ft. Hamilton) who have been in 9 battles of the rebellion. Published by E. & H. T. Anthony & Co." Those who were too young to enlist as regular soldiers often filled the position of drummer boy, but these young boys still played a crucial part in the army. Drums were used as a method of communication on the battlefield, and drummers had to learn dozens of drum calls. In addition to these duties, drummer boys were often tasked with aiding the medical staff in field hospitals. From the Bret J. Formichi American Civil War Rarities Collection.

    Condition:
Minor wear to the edges and corners. Light soiling throughout. Light dampstaining on verso. A small area of chipping at the top edge on verso. Overall good.
