    STEREOGRAPH LYNCHING OF GUS MENTZER, RATON, NEW MEXICO. 1882. Raton, New Mexico Territory. Mentzer is hanging from pole, as a little boy looks on in the middle of town. Mentzer shot Sheriff Dollman in Raton and Deputy Bergen pursued Mentzer, but he escaped. The townspeople caught him later and performed "Cowboy Justice". The murderer hung at this location a few days to give the travelers a vivid reminder of the justice in their town. Same photo attributed to photographer G. C. Whitaker, Kansas. 7"x 4" Very Fine Condition
