    Produced by the American Missionary Association. The stereoview shows nine members of the Jubilee Singers from Fisk University in Nashville.

    Paper wraps. Jubilee Hall frontispiece. Signed on the cover, "John C. Field Plymouth August 18th 1875". Signed on the title page, "Th. A. Field Ontario Aug. 18th 75".

    The Fisk Jubilee Singers were an African-American a cappella group that formed in 1871. They started the group as a way to raise money to attend college, and later toured the route of the Underground Railroad. Their fame grew to the point that they were able to perform in England and Europe. The group's music consisted of traditional hymnal music, but also included songs by the famed American songwriter Stephen Foster.

    Condition: Light wear and soiling on the stereoview. Foxing and toning throughout songbook (mostly kept to the front pages). There is light soiling, chipping and small tears to the cover and some page corners.
