    Description

Sixth Plate American Daguerreotype C. 1845 of a Hunter with His Dog. Bearded young man in light colored waist coat with rolled collar. Holds musket across his lap and his long haired Schnauzer like dog rests his head on his knee. Dog has moved his head slightly, else superb quality and about perfect condition. Untouched/uncleaned in a very nice maroon leather case from the "Plumbe National Daguerrian Depot, New-York" The image is accompanied by a modern slip of paper that identifies the subject as "Albert Gallatin Nicholson, Born 6/13/24 (which would make him about 21 in the image) and died 1/22/57. It also states he was a Mexican War Veteran. Fascinating and rare daguerreotype.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
