    Description

Sitting Bull, Red Cloud, Spotted Tail, and Swift Bear: An Important 1875 Photo of the Famous Chiefs. Taken at Omaha, Nebraska by photographer Frank P. Currier while the chiefs stopped there en route to a summit meeting with President Grant to discuss the Black Hills situation. Also pictured are Bordey, Warren, and Julius Meyer, the interpreter.

Clearly this photo is from the same sitting as one featuring just the four chiefs and Meyer which was sold by Heritage for $7767.50 in our May 2010 Western Legends auction. That example had printed I.D.s and photographer's information at the bottom, whereas the present photo has hand-written names in ink below. At 8" x 10", this albumen-on-board example has approximately the same photo area as the one sold earlier. However, this copy is in distinctly superior condition, essentially near-mint, with very strong, sharp photo quality and lacking the three horizontal creases present in the first example sold. Elegantly custom-framed to 16.5" x 18.5".

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
