    Description

Sioux Leader Crow King: D. F. Barry Cabinet Card. This Hunkpapa Sioux war chief is seen in a seated pose, wearing a bone hairpipe breastplate over the coat of a U.S. Army major. The shoulders of the coat are ornamented with locks of human hair and strips of otter fur wrap his braids; there is a single eagle feather in his hair. At the lower margin is written "Crow King" and there is a "D. F. Barry,/ Photographer" imprint on the verso as well as a handwritten notation: "Little Big Horn Veteran". During the Battle of Little Bighorn, Crow King was prominent in driving Reno's troopers out of the valley and across the river, later leading the charge which overwhelmed the soldiers on Calhoun Hill. Two of his brothers were killed in the battle. He was one of Sitting Bull's band chiefs during the Canadian exile, 1877-1880, and surrendered at Fort Buford, Dakota Territory in the autumn of 1880, when this portrait was made. A bit light, but detail is good. Mount and photo generally soiled with some light surface scratching not affecting the emulsion.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
