    Description

    Samuel P. Heintzelman Carte de Visite, circa 1861. 2.5" x 4". A full standing studio portrait, with the subject's name printed on the mount. Heintzelman is posed with arms crossed, dressed as he would have appeared during the Cortina Wars between 1859-1861. "Brady / N.Y." appears in the albumen incorporated into the tablecloth. Backstamp reads "Published by E. Anthony, 501 Broadway, New York. From Photographic Negative, from Brady's National Portrait Gallery."


    More Information:

    The "Cortina Troubles," as they are casually called, consisted of clashes over land and cattle between the U.S. Army, Confederate Army, and Texas Rangers, and Mexican militia led by Juan Cortina along the U.S./Mexico border near Brownsville, Texas.
