    Student Flies Flag of Surrender

    Greensboro, North Carolina; May 23, 1969

    A student at A & T University surrenders under a makeshift white flag (made from a white towel and an umbrella). The police had stormed the dorm room at the college during rioting.

    Police Disperse Pickets

    New York; August 22, 1963

    Pickets attempt to chain themselves to a pillar at the City Hall, while police officers pull the demonstrators apart.

    Looter is Killed
    10" x 8"
    Baltimore, Maryland; April 8, 1967

    The body of a looter lies on the ground. The man had been shot by police after purportedly approaching the officers with a knife.

    There are numerous photographs of clashes between demonstrators and police from cities across the United States. Violence and destruction occurred in Ohio, South Carolina, Louisiana, Indiana, Colorado, California, Florida, and Illinois. These riots took place in response to discrimination and violence against African-Americans during the Civil Rights Movement.

    Condition: Varying degrees of wear and toning, with light soiling in places. Overall very good.
