Press Photographs (11) of Rodney King Riots.Eleven black-and-white press photographs of varying sizes with agency stamps, date stamps, hand-written annotations and layout marks, some with printed text labels or press clippings on the versos. The photographs capture the atmosphere prior to and after the trial of Rodney King. King was a taxi driver in California who was arrested and beaten by the Los Angeles Police Department on March 3, 1991. The incident was captured on video by a bystander, and the event and subsequent trial provoked outrage around the world. The four police officers who were tried on charges of excessive force were ultimately acquitted, resulting in the 1992 Los Angeles Riots. Highlights from the group of photos include:

Los Angeles; March 24 & 25, 1991
Two images of a shirtless Rodney King, displaying his bruises and cuts. These photographs were taken three days after LAPD officers beat Rodney King on March 3, 1991. They were submitted by King's civil attorney Steven Lerman in court.
The other photographs included in the group are from the rioting that took place on April 30, 1992 in Los Angeles after a non-guilty verdict was announced. Over 300 stores were burned and there was looting, rioting, and other disturbances and destruction that took place from April 29 to May 4. The riots resulted in the deaths of 63 people, with 2,383 more who were injured.
Condition: Varying degrees of toning, with light wear. Overall very good.
