    Description

The Last Stage to Tombstone: An Iconic Panoramic Photo, from the John Gilcriese Collection. This wonderful photo has "blue chip" provenance: Written in ink on back of frame is "This photo given to me by (Tombstone historian) William Hattich. John Gilcriese 10 - 9 - 99." It depicts a crucial moment in Tombstone history, circa May 27, 1903. That was the date when the El Paso and Southwestern railroad finally reached Tombstone, putting the company which ran this stage, The Arizona Mail and Stage Co., out of business. Depicted is the Modoc Stage, built around 1887 and used for the run between Tombstone and Fairbank.

This gelatin print is in beautiful condition and measures 23" x 6.75", nicely custom-framed to 30" x 13". A rare original real photo postcard depicting the same scene also appears in this auction (Lot 51229).

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
