Early Colorado: Twenty-Two Exceptional Circa 1895 Images, Professionally Period-Mounted on Original Kodak Boards. Twenty-two really marvelous images of the pioneer mining camps of Cripple Creek, Ward, and Altman. Many town views and main street scenes by Webster and Yelton, Photographers. Exceptionally crisp, bold images in near-mint condition. Interested bidders are encouraged to examine this lot online, where individual images can be enlarged and fully appreciated.

Cripple Creek was the location of the last great Colorado gold rush in the 1890s. Ward, founded in 1860, was one of Colorado's richest towns in the earliest gold rush days. Once the home of several thousand people, it now has a population of 150 (all but about 20 of whom are vintage "hippies"). Only a few buildings remain of Altman, named after Sam Altman, who built the first stamping mill in the area. At one time the town boasted several hotels, restaurants, and saloons. It was a miners' headquarters during the bloody labor violence of 1894 and was long considered a hotbed of radical labor agitations (It was once said that violence was so common in Altman that a busy undertaker offered "group rates" if all the killings were done on a Saturday!).

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
