    Civil War Period Albumen View of the "Camp of the 22nd Penna. Vol. Cav. New Creek West Va. 1865" with script ID on negative. Image 5" X 7 1/8", mount overall 10" X 12". Taken from a distance showing the entire camp with tents, soldiers, horses etc. Very fine condition mounted in the original period artificially grained frame with gilt liner.
    The 22d Penna. Cav. mustered in at Chambersburg, Pa. on 2/1/64 and mustered out 6/24/65. The regiment served most of its term of service in the Department of West Virginia losing 34 men killed and mortally wounded during their relatively short term of service. The unit was consistently engaged throughout its term of service and suffered severe losses at the actions at Fisher's Hill, Brown's Gap and Weyer's Cave. A very scarce Civil War image.
