Civil Rights Photograph Archive from the Jamaica, New York Chapter of the NAACP. Over 80 photographs filed in a large brown photo album measuring 10.5" x 11.25". The album also measures over 2" thick. This album is mostly made up of black & white 8" x 10" photos showing various leaders of the NAACP chapter in Jamaica, New York, and action photos of the group in protest and at events and banquets. Many of the photographs capture protests outside neighborhood Woolworth's stores, showing protesters holding signs reading "END SEGREGATION ACROSS THE NATION! DON'T BUY AT WOOLWORTH'S!", "JAMAICA BRANCH NAACP SUPPORTS SOUTHERN STUDENT SIT-INS", and "JAMAICA BRANCH NAACP SUPPORTS BIRMINGHAM, ALA. SIT-INS". The album pictures a great number of Civil Rights leaders in action, such as Jesse Jackson, Roy Wilkins, Thomas Mackel, and an original black & white snapshot of Malcolm X. The photos range in time period from the 1960s, during the height of the Civil Rights movement, to Jesse Jackson's 1984 campaign for the presidency. All photos are in near mint to mint condition, but have adhered to the self-stick album pages. This is a wonderful and diverse collection of vintage photographs detailing the struggle of African-Americans in the late 20th-century.
