    Description

Cheyenne Agency, South Dakota: An Unusual Composite Photo, Circa 1895. Incorporating five different images, including a street scene, the church, the hospital and what is probably a school. 9" x 6.875" including mount. The sky area of each individual image has been hand-tinted. Excellent condition but for two tiny surface flakes, noted only for strictest accuracy.

The Agency was established on the Missouri River near Ft. Sully in 1889, and it was there that Chief Sitting Bull was killed by Indian policemen in 1890. After his death, his half-brother Big Foot assumed a leading role and led an exodus from the Agency until the group was recaptured on the Pine Ridge Agency.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
