    Description

Montage Photograph Broadside: "Officers of the Seventh N.Y.V.A. Who Died While in the United States Service." 15.25" x 19.25". Published by G.H. Treadwell, New York; lithographed by Murray & Goodwin, Albany, NY 1865. An attractive montage of a total of 18 albumen portraits arranged in two concentric circles around an albumen (2.5" x 3.5") of Col. Lewis O. Morris, beneath his image is a caption that reads, "Killed at Cold Harbor, Va. by Sharpshooter, June 4, 1864." The remaining albumens each measure approximately 2" in diameter, with the officer's name printed above, and the place and date of his death below.

The 7th New York Heavy Artillery was one of the garrison regiments withdrawn from the Washington Defenses and assigned to Barlow's Division, 2nd Corps, Army of the Potomac as infantry reinforcements for Grant's summer campaign. They sustained a disproportionate number of casualties, sacrificed to aggressive tactics intended to wear down Lee. The regiment was actively engaged only during the last 10 months of the war, and in that time lost 14 officers and 277 enlisted men killed or mortally wounded in battle.

Condition: Light dampstaining at bottom two corners well away from any of the images. With debris beneath the glass. Framed to an overall size of 20.75" x 24.5"

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
