John L. Sullivan Photograph. 9.5" x 7.75", circa 1890. With photostamp on verso, "Michigan View Company, Bay City, Mich." Sepia toned image of Sullivan standing with a rifle in an office with three other seated men. Period identification on verso in pencil: "L. to Right / Miller / Tom Hall, Sullivan - Texas Ranger / Joe Kehoe." The identification is repeated a second time, perpendicularly below. This is the first such image we have handled.

Sullivan served as a sergeant under Captain Bill J. McDonald with the Texas Rangers for twelve years, joining in 1889. He later wrote Twelve Years in the Saddle, about his experiences with the Rangers.

Condition: Some loss of material at upper right corner, does not affect any of the people in the photograph. Light soiling at lower left corner, and a small crease at lower edge. Very light foxing on verso. Overall, a very fine, clear photograph.
