    John J. Peck Signed Carte de Visite. 2.5" x 3.75", a bust portrait in uniform, with an H. Lazier, New York backstamp on verso. Signed below the image: "John Peck Maj Genl."

    John James Peck (1821-1878) was an 1843 graduate of West Point, and a classmate of Ulysses S. Grant. He fought in the Mexican-American War and later commanded the Army of North Carolina during the Civil War. After the war he became president of the New York State Life Insurance Company.

    Condition: Clipped two bottom corners, with wear to all corners. Small tear at the upper right edge. Small hole at the top. Toning and soiling throughout.
