    John J. Abercrombie Signed Carte de Visite. 2.5" x 4", a standing portrait of Abercrombie in uniform and holding his gloves, with an E. & H.T. Anthony, New York backstamp on verso. Signed below the image: "J.J. Abercrombie."

    John Joseph Abercrombie (1798-1877), graduated from West Point in 1822 and went on to serve in the Black Hawk War and Seminole Wars. At the outbreak of the Civil War, the 63-year-old Abercrombie made one of the oldest field officers in both the Union and Confederate armies. In early 1865, he was brevetted a brigadier general in the Regular Army, and subsequently retired from active military service in June 1865.

    Condition: Toned throughout. Bumping to the edges and corners. Pencil notations on verso.
