Jefferson Davis & Alexander Stephens: A Superb Pair of Tintypes by Abbott & Co. of New York. During the period of the Civil War, Abbott produced a series of these appealing images, particularly statesmen and military leaders. One can only speculate as to whether these two were intended for sale to Southern sympathizers in the North or in the Confederacy itself (many Northern manufacturers had clandestine channels to sell their products south of the Mason-Dixon Line). The Jefferson Davis is one of the rarest; we have only encountered a couple of other examples over the years, and we have never seen the Stephens before. Together they form a fine "jugate" for this Confederate president and his vice president. Tintype images of Davis are always sought after. A quarter-sized round example fetched over $3000 in our Spring 2013 auction. Each measures 1.375" x 1.625", and they are in beautiful condition.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
