    Imperial Size Photograph of Chief "Rain in the Face" ca 1880s-1890s. Rain-in-the-Face (also known as Ito-na-gaju or Exa-ma-gozua) (1835 - 1905) was a warchief of the Lakota tribe of Native Americans. His mother was a Dakota related to the band of famous Chief Inkpaduta. He was among the Indian leaders who defeated George Armstrong Custer and the U.S. 7th Cavalry Regiment at the 1876 Battle of Little Bighorn.

    This oversize albumen photograph was taken outside by an unknown photographer. The chief's name is gilded on the photograph. He is sitting proudly staring at photographer on his palomino pinto horse with beaded gauntlets, fringed leather jacket, and lasso, and some type of cap. Overall measurements in frame 14.25" x 11".

    Condition:
    Very good-fine, some foxing to image.
