    Description

Horace Greeley: Huge Mounted Albumen of Tribune Staff. 15" x 17" mounted albumen, circa 1872, showing Charles Dana (Chief Correspondent), Horace Greeley (Editor-in-Chief) and Whitelaw Reid (Managing Editor). Greeley was running for President at this time. He lost the election, his wife died, Reid fired and replaced him as Editor of the "Tribune", he was committed to an asylum and died in December. It wasn't a good year. There is loss to the bottom and top left corners and a repaired separation in the top left corner. Greeley holds his quill pen, symbolic of his editorial position, while his famous white hat sits on the table to the right. The photo is currently unframed.
