Henry E. Evans Carte de Visite of the Union 1st Texas Cavalry. 2.5" x 4", with period identification on the verso. A full standing pose in uniform, with a sword at his side. Evans mustered into Company A, 1st Texas Cavalry on November 1, 1862. The 1st Texas Cavalry was organized in New Orleans in November 1862 and was attached to the Independent Command of the Gulf. They supported the defenses of New Orleans until September 1863 and participated in expeditions throughout western Louisiana and Texas. They were ordered to Vidalia in the District of Natchez, Mississippi in late May 1865, and were stationed there through June. Thereafter, they were moved to Texas, where they remained until November 1865 when they mustered out.

Condition: Near fine with a bit of discoloration to the image around Evan's left ear. Great detail, and content, with an untrimmed mount. A few stray stains on verso.
