    Description

Group of Three Western Cartes de Visite. Including: Buffalo Bill. 2.5" x 4.25". Sepia toned, oval, portrait bust, circa 1880. This scarce image of Cody shows the famed showman in a coat with fur-lined collar, his long curly locks brushed back. With Theatrical Photographing Company/Philadelphia backstamp. [and:] Ned Buntline, "Buffalo Bill" Cody, and "Texas Jack" Omohundro. 2.5" x 3.75", no photographer's imprint present. The writer, the showman, and the frontier scout pose resplendent in their best "wild west" attire in this sepia toned photograph. Light staining at the lower edge. [and:] Ned Buntline Signed Carte de Visite. 2.5" x 4". This sepia-toned, silver gelatin image shows an older Buntline in a hat and suit with a lapel festooned with badges and medals. With Gurney/New York backstamp. The image is signed "Ned Buntline" across the bottom. Buntline was an American publisher, journalist, writer, and publicist best known for his dime novels and the Colt Buntline Special he is alleged to have commissioned from Colt's Manufacturing Company. A second identification appears on the verso, in pencil, but not in Buntline's hand. Some light silvering present in the dark areas. From the estate collection of E.F. Mueller.
