    Group of Seven Cartes de Visites of Officers of the 11th New Jersey Inf. Group includes the following: full length standing view of Lt. Benjamin F. Morehouse. Wears kepi with embroidered infantry insignia on front, frock coat with shoulder straps, sword belt with steel scabbard suspended and holding foot officer's sword with bullion knot in front of him, signed on verso; another portrait of Morehouse. Seated wearing fatigue blouse with should straps holding kepi with 3rdCorps insignia on top in his lap. Nicely signed on verso; Seated view of Cap[t. Edward Thomas Kennedy. Wears fatigue blouse with velvet collar and shoulder straps, knee high boots, signed on verso; another view of Kennedy, this a bust portrait. wears frock coat with shoulder straps and very nicely signed on verso. Kennedy was wounded in The Wilderness and resigned for disability on August 26, 1864.; standing view of Capt. John F. Buckley. Wears frock coat with shoulder straps, holds forage cap with infantry insignia on the front at his side, signed on verso.; full length standing view of Lt. William H. Eagan who was killed at Spotsylvania May 12, 1864. Wears unusual 5 button fatigue blouse with shoulder straps. Forage cap with 3rd Corps badge on top. Sword belt with foot officer's sword at his side. Nicely signed on verso. Eagan appears to have been absolutely huge by Civil War period standards; Captain Sydney M. Layton, killed at Petersburg, Va. June 16, 1864. Very nice portrait wearing frock coat with shoulder straps. Lengthy period ink script narrative on verso, "Killed at Petersburg, Va. in the charge June 16, 1864 at the front of his company, a brave man......his loss was mourned by both men and officers. He was atrue friend to all and to his country and died a gallant death". Signed with the same unidentified set of script initials as the Gilson CDVs. All in fine condition and an exceptional grouping.
