    Description

Great Sixth Plate Confederate Ambrotype Of Dr. William Haskins Along With His Appointment As Surgeon Of The 59th Va. Inf. Signed By James Seddon. Haskins wears double breasted frock coat with collar and cuffs tinted light blue. Rank insignia of 1st lieutenant tinted gilt on his collar along with quatrefoil on his sleeves. Buttons appear to be rimmed state seals but tinted so not identifiable. Pristine quality about perfect condition with just some abrasions at the edge of the mat not affecting image. Housed in a nice leather geometric case hinge split. The image is accompanied by Haskins's appointment as surgeon, dated June 1st 1864 with rank dating to 21 December 1863 and signed by James Seddon as Secretary of War. 59 Va. Regt. written in pencil in the upper left which is, in fact, the regiment Haskins served with. Document is 7 3/4' X 10", pre printed and filled out in ink. Fine condition in 19th century frame. This piece was originally part of the Gen. Wickham lot, listed elsewhere in this catalog, with the ID, in addition to the intrinsic material included here, is based on information contained in that lot that Dr. Haskins married into the Wickham family. Great Confederate ambrotype with exceptional history/provenance.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
