    Great Ninth Plate Pre-War Ambrotype of a Militia Artilleryman. Wears single breasted coatee with cloth fringed epaulettes and flashing on cuffs. White buff crossbelt with large plate. White buff waist belt with two piece interlocking eagle plate. Holds M1851 shako at his side with red tinted pom-pom and spread wing eagle socket base tinted gilt. Insignia on front of crossed cannons with "A 8" on either side. The white flecks visible on the image are not in the emulsion, but simply flakes on the black paint backing of the ambrotype, with the piece photographed against a white background and easily restored, else pristine condition and supurb quality. No case.
