Great Carte-De-Visite-View Of The US Monitor Neosho C. 1864. Full length horizontal view of the ship with crew milling about on deck. Excellent detail, superb quality, perfect condition. Photographer's logo on verso "McPherson & Oliver Photographers" and period ink ID "Monitor Neosho / Taken at Alexandria - Red River". The USS Neosho was an ironclad Monitor laid down in the summer of 1862. She was named after the Neosho River. She entered service in mid 1863 and served with Porter's Mississippi Squadron participating in the Red River Campaign In 1864 (likely when this image was taken) and the Battle of Nashville, along with her normal patrol and fleet protection duties. She was heavily engaged on numerous occasions and decommissioned 23 July 1865. Great image of a Federal ironclad that saw heavy action throughout her deployment.
