    Governor Lucius Fairchild and Wife:Two Photographs. Col. Lucius Fairchild is seen in a 2.5" x 4" carte de visite standing near a table in full uniform, a saber at his left hip, hands held behind his back. Backstamp of Brady's National Photographic Galleries on the verso. A pencil notation on the verso identifies this as "Gov. Lucius C. Fairchild 2nd Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry. Lost his left arm at Gettysburg, 1863." Fairchild served as the tenth governor of Wisconsin from 1866-1872.

    Gov. Fairchild's wife, Frances, is seen in the second image, a vignette portrait bust carte de visite by Whipple of Boston. The photograph is housed in a paper CDV mount measuring 4.25" x 5.5" and bearing a pen inscription identifying her as "Mrs. Fairchild, wife of Gov. Fairchild."
