George Armstrong Custer: Rare Tintype Version of a Brady Photograph. This highly popular image was taken by Brady on May 23, 1865, when Custer and other leading lights of the recent War assembled in Washington for the "Grand Review of the Armies." It is customarily seen in albumen CDV form, and that version has auction records to $9,200. In Custer in Photographs, Katz does list a similar tintype version (Item K-78V, page 62), but we have been unable to find any record of a tintype at auction. The example offered here is in choice condition in the original mount. A superb Custer photograph! 2.375" x 3.875".
