Fantastic Album of Over 50 Original 6" x 8" F. Jay Haynes Shots Documenting an 1896 Hunting Expedition to Jackson Lake Country in Northwest Wyoming. According to the brief introduction, the expedition was organized by Dr. W.S. Webb. Webb must have had considerable clout, as it appears that General Coppinger and the officers of the 9th Cavalry, who administered the area, rolled out the red carpet and accompanied the hunters. There is a day-by-day account of the 46 mile trek from September 12th through October 11th. This is followed by the exceptional photos, each mounted on heavy, gilt-edged stock separated by tissue. Neat hand-written identifications are added below each picture. The interest level and quality of the photos is superb. We wish we could show each and every one, but have selected a representative sampling, including Jackson Lake and Tetons, Old Faithful, Camp Webb, Gardiners Canyon, Train at Cinnabar, Electric Peak, Minerva Terrace Hotel Valley, Golden Gate East Entrance, Outfit Leaving Snake River Camp, and Shoshone Lake from Continental Divide. Undoubtedly a very small number of these books were prepared by the photographer, who was based in St. Paul, Minnesota. There is moderate wear as expected on the leather cover, but the contents are in near-mint state. The album itself measures 10.25" x 7.25". One of the nicest Western photo albums we have ever handled.
