Exquisite Quarter Plate Daguerreotype of a Young American Officer Circa 1852/3, Untouched/ Uncleaned.
Wears single breasted frock coat with very high standup collar and flashing at the cuffs. Black patent leather belt with rare oval two piece interlocking eagle plate, worn over sash. Fringed epaulettes with brass crescents, clearly somewhat lighter weight than the Civil War pattern. Holds M1851 shako with spread wing eagle insignia and what appears to be AG in the wreath on the front. Very large feathered plume nicely tinted. Holds ivory/ bone gripped eaglehead sword cradled in his arm. Just some minor scattered tarnish around the edges, else superb quality and condition with original case. American military daguerreotypes, especially in these larger sizes have become quite rare, with this being an exceptional example.
