Edward Serrell Carte de Visite Signed "Edw. W. Serrell Col. Engrs. N.Y.V." 2.5" x 4", with a Brady's New York imprint on verso. A vignette bust portrait of Serrell, dressed in his colonel's uniform. Signed at the bottom of the albumen and on the mount below. Edward Wellman Serrell (1826-1906) was born in England and immigrated with his family in 1831. Before the war, he worked as a civil engineer in New York with his father and brother, and he was the assistant engineer during the 1848 Panama Survey. When the Civil War broke out, Serrell served as chief engineer for the Department of the South and the 10th Corps and the Army of the James. He contributed numerous inventions to the war effort, and after the war, he sketched plans for a flying machine. Serrell was an honorary pallbearer at President Grant's funeral. From the Bret J. Formichi American Civil War Rarities Collection.

Condition: Light toning, with minor foxing throughout. Minor dampstaining on verso at the lower left corner. Overall very good and boldly signed.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
