    Edward S. Curtis Sepia Photograph of a Mojave Indian Youth. "Copyright 1903 by E. S. Curtis x 979" in negative, lower left, inscribed "Mojave" below, 7" x 6.5", overall with mat. Some scuffing to upper right corner, old tape on verso, overall very good condition. Seattle-based Edward S. Curtis (1868 - 1952) began photographing Native Americans in the 1890s and received considerable acclaim for his efforts. This work came to the attention of financier J. P. Morgan who, in 1907, commissioned Curtis to produce an extensive series of photographs documenting American Indians and their culture.
