    Ninth-Plate Daguerreotype of African-American Man Fashioning Himself After Frederick Douglass.
    Measuring approximately 2" x 2.5"
    No place; circa October 1858

    An image of a young black man, dressed in a suit and bow tie. His hair and fashion are modeled heavily on that of Frederick Douglass, who had become a living icon in his time. On verso, written in pencil, is written "Oct 185[8]". It is housed in a dark brown thermoplastic case that measures 2.25" x 3". Behind the daguerreotype is the label for A.P. Critchlow & Co., Manufacturers of Daguerreotype Cases.

    Condition: There are imperfections along the left vertical side and lower corner. The case is worn with some material loss near the right corners of the front cover. Else, good.
