    Confederate Lieutenant General John Bell Hood Carte de Visite Signed Twice. 2.5" x 4", No imprint present on verso. A three quarter length portrait of Hood, dressed in his uniform with his hands crossed in his lap. Signed at the lower mount. With a second signature on the verso where Hood has inscribed in ink, "For Mrs. Dr. Haxall with the compliments of J.B.H."

    Kentucky-born John Bell Hood (1831 - 1879) graduated from the U. S. Military Academy in 1853. As commander of the Texas Brigade during the war's early days, Hood rose to prominence in the Army of Northern Virginia. He was transferred to the Army of Tennessee after the Battle of Gettysburg and was tasked with the impossible order of trying to keep Sherman out of Atlanta. From the Bret J.     Condition: Light toning and spotting throughout. There is a small imperfection and paper loss at the upper edge. Minor adhesive residue on verso.
