Confederate Cartes-de-Visite: Lloyd Tilghman, Merriwether Jeff Thompson and Edward Lloyd Thomas. Three (3) cartes including a full-standing Lloyd Tilghman (1816-1863); Merriwether Jeff Thompson (1826-1876); and Edward Lloyd Thomas (1825-1898). All three cartes are by E & H.T. Anthony, New York. Tilghman commanded Fort Henry at the time of its capture, fought at Corinth, Vicksburg and Champion's Hill where he was killed by a shell fragment. Jeff Thompson was a jack-of-all-trades and drifter. He organized a Missouri militia unit, the "Swamp Rats", and raided Union outposts and towns. He was briefly a P.O.W., then hooked up with Sterling Price and participated in the failed Price Raid in Missouri. Thomas led Georgia troops (the "Light Division") through many battles of the war, including Seven Days, Mechanicsville (wounded), Fredericksburg, Second Bull Run and Chancellorsville. From the collection of Dr. Michael Krane.
