Winfield Scott Hancock Signed Carte de Visite. 2.5" x 4", a seated portrait of the famous general with his arm resting on the back of the chair, with an E. & H.T. Anthony, New York backstamp on verso. Signed on verso: "Winfield S. Hancock Maj Genl."

Winfield Scott Hancock (1824-1886) is well known for his success at Gettysburg, particularly his efforts on the front lines during Pickett's Charge, where he was wounded towards the end of the fighting. He was highly respected by General Grant, who said of his colleague, "...his name was never mentioned as having committed in battle a blunder for which he was responsible." After the war, Hancock was tasked with overseeing the execution of Lincoln's assassination conspirators. He went on to command the Department of the Missouri and even made a bid for president in the election of 1880.
