    Description

Virginia Slave Child Redeemed: Four Cartes de Visite. In contract to the New Orleans CDVs of mixed race slave children, these four cartes all show Fannie Virginia Casseopia Lawrence, captioned: "A Redeemed Slave Child, five years of age. Redeemed in Virginia, by Catherine S. Lawrence; baptized in Brooklyn, at Plymouth Church, by Henry Ward Beecher, May, 1863." Rev. Beecher was an ardent abolitionist who raised funds to purchase the freedom of slaves in the South. Fannie was apparently one of these slaves who achieved her freedom through the efforts of Beecher and his congregants. Three images have back marks of Kellogg Brothers of Hartford while the fourth has the back mark of J. W. Black of Boston. Three examples in very fine condition or better. The fourth example with scattered stains and abrasions, not affecting the portrait.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
