    Union Navy Captain John Ancrum Winslow, Commander of the U.S.S. Kearsarge, Two Cartes de Visite and Clipped Signature. Includes: (1) CDV of Winslow seated in uniform, approximately 2.5" x 4", with a Whipple, Boston studio mark on the verso as well as a three-cent George Washington tax stamp. Lower corners rounded else very good condition. (2) CDV of Captain Winslow standing, in uniform, approximately 2.5" x 4", with a Black & Case, Boston, studio mark on the verso. Image slightly faded, else very good condition. (3) Clipped signature, measuring approximately 4.5" x 1.75", "Respectfully, / Jno. A. Winslow / Commodore Cmdg. / Gulf Squadron". Paper lightly toned, otherwise a bright, legible signature in excellent condition. John A. Winslow (1811-1873) commanded the Kearsarge when it sunk the CSS Alabama off the coast of France in 1864.
